REQUIEM FOR QUEER AMOR
Set at the turn of the century, the Wild West gets even wilder when SANCHA, a queer ancestor, comes to life. SANCHA is a pistol-carrying womyn lover, a shrewd cantina owner, and a harmonica playing aficionado. With a strong corazón shaped by life en la frontera, her story celebrates the struggle of survival, love, y claro... good whiskey.
This is a performance art piece in progress commissioned by the University of California at Riverside (UCR) and presented by ASBP, Cultural Events, & LGBTRC. The performance traverses the complex terrain of queers, nation-formation, anti-migration, and other taboo frontiers. The last workshop performance included special invited guest artist, Magaly: La Voz de Oro. (Yes, a queer ranchera singer!)
*The artist would like to recognize Nancy Jean Tubbs, Director of UC Riverside's LGBT Resource Center, for making this new solo work possible.
