REQUIEM FOR QUEER AMOR
Set at the turn of the century, the Wild West gets even wilder when SANCHA, a queer ancestor, comes to life. SANCHA is a pistol-carrying womyn lover, a shrewd cantina owner, and a harmonica playing aficionado. With a strong corazón shaped by life en la frontera, her story celebrates the struggle of survival, love, y claro... good whiskey.
This was a performance art piece commissioned by the University of California at Riverside and presented by ASBP, Cultural Events, & LGBTRC. The performance traversed the complex terrain of queers, nation-formation, anti-migration, and other taboo frontiers. The last workshop performance included special invited guest artist, Magaly: La Voz de Oro (a queer ranchera singer).
*The artist would like to recognize Nancy Jean Tubbs, Director of UC Riverside's LGBT Resource Center, for making this new solo work possible. Due to the technical demands of this show, it is only available on the university circuit for readings and followed by a Q & A.
