LAs Hociconas: Three Locas with BIg MoUths and Even Bigger Brains

LAMBDA LITERARY FINALIST IN LGBT DRAMA, 2014

LAS HOCICONAS (originally published by Korima Press and edited by Lorenzo Herrera y Lozano; the book is now available for purchase through AdeRisa Productions) is an original X-X-Xicana Comedic Triptych where, in signature style, Adelina blends stand-up comedy, monologue, zany characterizations, and sprinklings of performance art moments in three distinct solo comedies. In these intensely bold, highly theatrical, and hilarious Spanglish shows, our performer intertwines Xicanismo, the queer, the feminist and everything else that matters for those of us working toward progressive politics and practices. Each solo script is a full-length comedy that stands on its own. Conceived to be in conversation with each other, all three comedies are presented together in this book; delivering non-stop critical comedia.

the beast of times

LAMBDA LITERARY FINALIST IN LGBT DRAMA, 2015

THE BEAST OF TIMES is a queer political allegory that explores the contradictions and pains of coming to political consciousness in a world where environmental and ethnic diversity are fast diminishing. The play, in which radicalized animals put humans on trial, follows the story of two protagonists—a dog and a cat—at odds with each other. One is impassioned about her politicization and joining “the movement,” and the other is satisfied with her “creature comforts.” Beast uses pointed humor and stark drama to expose the human love of greed and greed for love, in addition to the devastating effects of environmental degradation on the planet’s non-human inhabitants.

Script and performance developed with a 2010 NPN Creation Fund Award with co-commissioners La Peña Cultural Center & allgo (a Texas Statewide Queer People of Color Organization)/ 2013 World Premiere: L.A. Renberg Theatre (Produced by Jon Imparato)

tragic bitches: an experiment in queer xicana & xicano performance poetry

TRAGIC BITCHES (available for purchase at Kórima Press.) was conceived and developed by Adelina Anthony, Dino Foxx, and Lorenzo Herrera y Lozano, Tragic Bitches documents the process and poetry of three queer Xicana and Xicano artists seeking to revel and heal in the darkest and most vulnerable spaces of love, desire, and loss. These poets speak to joy and angst understanding that love, sex, and loss are braided continuums. Here, tragedy is not ignored—it is recognized, claimed, learned and healed from.

They performed the poetry at Austin’s historical Eastside bar, The Victory Grill (presented by allgo), The L.A. LGBT Center, MACLA in San José, La Peña Cultural Center (Berkely, CA) and other cultural and campus venues.
